I cycle to work, and I like to listen to the radio as I commute. So I got myself a bargain Sanyo DAB100 from Empiredirect for only £44, never seen a review for it before, so I thought I'd write my own.It arrived last Friday, a day after I ordered it.
It's pretty good at holding onto signals, well in London at least. Normally with FM stations I'm plagued by pirate stations, making it impossible to get radio 4, so the switch to digital made sense. I've been using a Pure Evoke 2 at home for a couple of years, and the main radio stations I listen to are Five Live, Radio 7 and Radio 4.
So far with the Sanyo it's been good. It sounds very good through my Sennheiser PX200 (yet to try the bundled ear buds). Listening to a Radio 4 panel discussion show, I was amazed how much detail I could hear, the rustle of clothes, and the breathing of the presenters etc.
It's eating through my rechargeable AA batteries, I'm getting about 4hrs from each set, but they are new batteries, so it may take a while for them to get up to full charge.
The thing is rugged, it took a tumble from pocket while cycling and it skidded a good few meters, and other than a little cosmetic damage the thing seems to still work fine. I can't say I'm annoyed by the damage, as it would have happened eventually, as I tend to take my radios everywhere, and now the things battle damaged, I'm going to be a little less precious with it.
The preset system isn't that good, but I don't tend to change radio station much while on the move. If you wanted to change radio station, you'd have to look at the display etc.
I shall write more, once I've used the radio a bit more, but at the moment it's a thumbs up. Well for £44 what do you expect?
